Valencia-based Clap Studio has created the statement-making Worm bench, the first modular furniture system by Spanish firm Missana. Inspired by the elongated, cylindrical forms of millipede worms, the sinewy pieces adapt to spatial requirements.

Explaining their inspiration for the design, co-founder Jordi Iranzo says, “we recalled our childhood fascination with the forms of millipede worms and their ability to bend and scroll.”.

The Worm bench has straight, curved, and end modules. Each has an upholstered seat and a metal structure with numerous legs that imitate the millipede worm. Users can configure the modules in various combinations by playing with size, shape, and colour.

Missana is a 25-year-old family-owned business based in Valencia that designs and manufactures contemporary furniture for the contract and residential markets. With a “Locally Made” philosophy, the company accesses supply chains less than sixty kilometers from its facilities.
