Ballesol Costa Blanca Resort: An Accessible Dream Guest Accommodation in Cala de Finestrat

This past summer, I was a guest at the Ballesol Costa Blanca Resort residence, which offers one and two-bedroom apartments for seniors seeking independence and modern amenities. Amenities include a 24-hour reception, restaurant, cafeteria, library, gym, and indoor and outdoor pools. Full-time residents have access to medical supervision by a team of qualified professionals. In previous years, I stayed at my father-in-law’s nearby condo, but due to my declining mobility, my husband and I rented a one-bedroom apartment for one week, as there are a few apartments reserved for short-term rentals. It was a dream with its beachfront location near the produce and flea markets, shops, bars, and restaurants. We booked a one-bedroom with accessible features.

The numerous common areas are spacious, featuring a curated selection of contemporary teak furniture and an array of eclectic accessories. This pared-back material palette creates a sense of quietude throughout the building.

The spacious apartment has several roomy closets in the entry, a galley kitchen, a large bathroom with a curbless shower, and an open area with living and dining spaces.

The balcony has a built-in ramp to access it. I appreciated this accessible feature as many years ago, I enjoyed spending hours sitting on the large balcony of my father-in-law’s condo reading, blogging, and taking a siesta. I was unable to access it in 2024 due to my inability to cross the threshold.

The enclosed kitchen has a microwave, stovetop, dishes, and cutlery.

This is the outdoor space off the kitchen. Common to some apartments in Spain, it is a separate space normally used to store washing machines and to hang laundry.

The bathroom was great with a sufficient number of well-placed grab bars in the walk-in curbless shower, and grab bars next to the toilet (left of the shower in the image). As I found the toilet a bit low, I requested a toilet seat riser, which guest services provided to me.

Although we did not use the pool, the spacious outdoor areas invited community engagement.
