Casa Decor 2023: 11th edition of the Casa Decor Interiors and Design Awards

The Location

Between April 13 and May 28, Spain’s most important interior design event, Casa Decor, took place returning to its roots in the upscale Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid. Casa Decor is a communication platform that brings together designers, commercial brands, and the general public.

The location changes each year and for the 58th edition, it was on 92 Serrano Street in a former residential building with over 4000 square meters spread over the ground and three floors. Built around 1929, it is the former office of Banco Hispanoamericano. The Neo-classic style façade is inspired by the buildings in the Parisian neighbourhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, with a symmetrical and harmonious distribution based on classical cornices, cantilevers, and gables. Another interesting feature of the building’s structure is the floor layout, with a carriageway that leads to a large courtyard, which in turn leads to a central courtyard.

For the fourth consecutive year, Casa Decor committed to sustainability for the 55 spaces based on several principles: use of organic, recycled, and recyclable materials, from sustainable extraction and production; maximizing resources, minimizing impact, ease of discarding products; reuse of materials and furniture after the event; water savings and energy efficiency; commitment to artisanal products and traditional regional trades; and a biophilic culture favoring green and healthy spaces.

The Awards

Kersti Urvois and Alicia García Cabrera, President and Director General of Casa Decor, opened the ceremony for the 11th edition of the Casa Decor Interiors and Design Awards.

As for previous years, the announcement occurred during a virtual ceremony broadcast live on the Casa Decor YouTube channel.

The jury comprised architect Teresa Sapey, the recipient of the 2023 Honorary Award for Professional Career; designers Summumstudio, winners last year for the Best Project; Sigfrido Herraez, architect, and dean of the College of Architects of Madrid; Esther Sánchez, interior designer and dean of the College of Decorators and Interior Designers of Madrid; and Ana Ramírez, a journalist specializing in design.

A special Extraordinary Prize went to gallerist Nieves Fernández for her role in promoting art.

Jury Awards for Best Project

The second place prize (1st Mention) went to “Wonder Chamber” by Vonna Studio (Victoria González and Nicolás Pogge) for Delamora.

The third place prize (2nd Mention) went to Espacio Jung by Plutarco for Jung.

Best Original Design

The first-place prize for the Best Orignal Design was the vertical screen designed by MSZ Studio (Marta Sanchez Zornoza and Pablo Dacal Gutierrez in the Svea Solar España space. The screen is made of recycled plastic using 3D printing by Nagami.

The second place prize (1st Mention) was the sculptural latticework by Erico Navazo Studio in the “Organic Flows” space for Strohm Teka.

The third place prize (2nd Mention) was the ceiling light fixture by Alejandra Pombo in “The Parisian Bath” space for Cosentino.

Best Use of a Design in a Space

The winner for best use of a design went to Pia Paisajismo for the use of technical wood in the space for Tarimatec.

The second place prize (1st Mention) went to Quino Bono Arquitectos for the acoustic solutions in the space for Ideatec.

The third place prize (2nd Mention) went to Hisbalit for the use of glass mosaic tiles in the space for Andreína Raventós Architecture and the one for Bathco.
