Vajillas de Ultramar: New Horizons
Combining their mastery of artisanship, art, and design, Vajillas de Ultramar and renowned fashion designer Josep Font debuted “La Vajilla” by Josep Font, their 24-piece ceramics collection, at Milan Design Week 2024. The first appearance by Vajillas de Ultramar at this prestigious global event, the new collection combines the unique vision of Josep Font with the artisanship of the Madrid-based studio founded by Maria José Diez and Natalia López, dedicated to the creation of delicate fine ceramic pieces.
The collaboration redefines the boundaries of ceramics and becomes a benchmark in the world of tableware, taking this craft to new levels. Each line fuses art, haute couture, and craft and adapts the classic motifs that define Josep Font’s creative career to the art of the table. Each piece is meticulously crafted according to an artisanal methodology and reflects the characteristic lightness and movement that Vajillas de Ultramar infuses into their ceramics.
All pieces of the collection are white, the signature colour of Vajillas de Ultramar. There are six lines, each comprising a dinner plate, a dessert plate, a bowl, and a bread plate: the Lazo Jarrón, the Bow, the Knot, the Face, Flowers, and Calla lily.
Transferring Josep Font’s innovative ideas to earthenware is complex and challenging. Simulating fabrics in a rigid material requires a meticulous artisanal process that incorporates endless details from the millimetrically created loops to the knots that appear tied to the plate. The result is a collection that reflects the dedication and experience of both studios, providing them with an enriching experience, and challenging creative and technical boundaries.
