Guille-Garcia Hoz Workshops

In April, those in the Madrid area can learn the art of ceramic making from the team at Guille García-Hoz, a ceramic artist and interior designer. The workshops take place at his studio at 6 Nao Street. Please check his website to verify available spots.

Clay and Wine (April 3, 10, 17, 24)

Learners enjoy a glass of wine while learning three ceramic-making techniques: pinching, coiling, and Kurinuki. At the end, they can choose two pieces they made, which will undergo firing after the course, which they can later pick up.

This course takes place on four days from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m: April 3, 10, 17, and 24.

Beginner: Learning to Make Molds (April 13 and April 14)

This two-day course is taught by Guille García-Hoz. On the first day, learners will make plaster molds of simple shapes that they can later replicate by creating new objects. On the second day, they will cast the pottery and later pick up their pieces.

The course takes place from 10:30 am until 2 pm.

Decorative Technique (April 18)

This four-hour course is taught by the ceramist and jewelry designer María Torné. After a brief presentation, learners will learn how to create pieces of porcelain with casting molds, a practical and basic method that ceramists use to obtain volumetric pieces with thin walls. They can make between three and five pieces. The pieces they make during the course will have a decorative or functional purpose.

No prior knowledge is necessary.

The course will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Ceramic Painting Workshop with Marta Romo Donaire (April 20)

Taught by Guille García-Hoz with artist Marta Romo Donaire, learners learn to paint bisque pieces with oxides. The pieces they make will undergo glazing and firing after the workshop, which they can later pick up.

This course takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 3 pm.

Guille-Garcia Hoz

Guille García-Hozhas has gained a large following for his unique ceramics. This designer completed an undergraduate degree in mathematics in Madrid, after which he pursued studies in interior design in Madrid and at the University of Montreal. Among his standout pieces are glazed white ceramics in the shape of animals.

The Centro Cerámico Talavera (Talavera Ceramic Center) in Toledo, Spain produces many of his pieces. This renowned ceramics workshop, founded in 1992, is faithful to techniques of traditional hand-painted Talavera ceramics, following master ceramists of the XVI century.
