Cuarto Interior designs the new Hard Rock Hotel Marbella with a Ye-Yé 60s vibe
The interior design studio Cuarto Interior drew inspiration from the Ye-Yé movement of the 60s for the design of the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella. Thriving amongst the youth of Spain in the 60s, it was a movement that broke with imposed norms, seeking to unleash imagination and live life in full color. The innovative, fully customized interior design immerses guests and visitors in the vibrant fullness of that era and the rebellious and liberating attitude of the Ye-Yé movement.
Led by Germán Álvarez and José Manuel Fernández, Cuarto Interior refurbished the 383 rooms and suites (including a 140-square-meter Rock Star Suite), hallways, rooftop, bar, and pool. Located near the renowned Playa del Duque, the hotel has the carefree and musical atmosphere of all Hard Rock Hotels.
This innovative interior design project was nominated for the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards and the International Hotel & Property Awards 2023.
The design aesthetic of the rooms is free-spirited, breaking away from conventions. Vertical lines blend with curves, and shades of blue, orange, and red are accentuated with golden touches.
The ‘Maxibar’ area transports guests to the 1960s. The covering, a custom vinyl paper in muted tones with golden reflections, enhances the color accents of the velvet-upholstered furniture pieces by Sancal. The minibar is a key element of the relaxation space, entirely covered in brushed copper.
In the bathrooms, the organic shaped mirrors are framed in gold and illuminated with LED lights.
The rooftop of the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella invites guest to lounge around its magnificent pool. Cuarto Interior designed different microenvironments so that each guest finds the outdoor experience they are looking for. Areas for relaxation and intimacy contrast with a bar in the purest 60s style.
Founded in 2003 by Germán Álvarez, creative director, and José Manuel Fernández, executive director, the Madrid-based interior architecture firm, Cuarto Interior has a strong international presence. The studio’s contemporary, warm, and timeless aesthetic is defined by a preference for noble materials, such as wood, steel, and high-natural high quality textiles, handmade finishes, natural light, carefully-articulated artificial lighting systems and unique furniture pieces. Projects include the Mondrian Hotel Ibiza, Hotel Urso, Room Mate Gorka Hotel in San Sebastian, Rocacho Restaurant in Madrid, Gunilla Club in Madrid, and the Barceló Theater Club in Madrid, and the Roto Restaurant in Ibiza.
